UA to Open Foundry

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication April 19 at 1 p.m. to open a new foundry meant to encourage creative collaboration between engineering and art students.

Pitt State - MPI Donation

MPI, the worldwide leader in wax-room equipment has furthered its commitment to education in the investment casting industry by donating a 25-ton wax injector to the manufacturing program at Pittsburg State University (PSU). The new state-of-the-art wax injection machine is being installed in the metal casting lab at the Kansas Technology Center and is expected to be ready for operation in late May, just in time for the summer session at PSU.

2013 AFS Tech Contest Results

Scholarships were awarded to two students this year for their submissions to the AFS/FEF Technology Contest. Derrick Myers and Corey Vian, both from Purdue, were awarded $1000 and $1500 respectively; their FEF Key Professor is Qingyou Han.

Corey, who is pursuing his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology, submitted "Bubble Formation and Motion During Solidification". Corey is studying Mechanical Engineering Technology and submitted a project entitled "Breaking Up Coral-like Eutectic Silicon in Hypoeutectic Al-Si Alloys". Both students will receive an AFS Merit Award, and their projects will be published in the Winter 2014 issue of the International Journal of Metalcasting.
