Thank you for selecting me as one of the recipients of a Foundry Educational Foundation scholarship. This scholarship will go towards my tuition and extra costs of attending school here at UW-Platteville.
I am a fourth year student in the metals program here at Platteville, I started out in engineering and after one year in the program realized I did not like that it was not as hands on as I was told. I heard from a friend of mine about this program and took a tour and liked what I saw. Once I was in this program I noticed that there were lots of organizations willing to help students through school like AFS. It is a great feeling knowing there are companies out there willing to help students by donating their time, supplies and money to students in need. These donations will help in creating a better foundry industry in the future.
Thank you again for selecting me for this prestigious honor.
M.D.—Michigan Tech—1/2012
Thank you very much for the scholarship, it has already helped me greatly with school expenses. I earned this scholarship be being a good team member, now a team leader, and fulfilling all the tasks that were assigned to me in a thorough and timely manner. I plan to run for an officer position for the enterprise at the end of this spring semester.
I am very interested in metals/casting and plan to look info future plans in that direction. I plan to take a castings class as a technical elective since it has become an appealing subject to me. I might be looking into getting in the mechanical engineering aspect to metal casting if there are job openings in that field once I graduate.
Based on receiving this scholarship and attending your informational session I will definitely consider donating to FEF once I graduate and secure a job.
M.K.—Michigan Tech—1/2012
Thank you for providing me with a scholarship. Since my education began at Michigan Tech, my interest in metal casting and metallurgy has grown from interest in blacksmithing and metal casting as hobbies to consideration of the industry as a career choice. I have been involved in excellent experiences at Michigan Tech that have led me to appreciate metal casting including courses taken, plant tours, and involvement in the FEF College Industry Conference. Thank you for your work in organizing this conference and for the scholarship.
I am currently pursuing internships in the industry for this summer, and I am considering graduate studies within the Materials Science Department at Michigan Tech. After graduation I would like to obtain a job in the foundry industry or a related field. From there I hope to repay the kindness and support that you and the FEF have show.
D.K. —Wisconsin-Milwaukee—2/16/12
I am writing you in appreciation for setting up the FEF-CIC this year, and to let you know about my personal results from the conference. While I was in Chicago, I was invited to dinner with the team from General Motors. I had a great time getting to know the team members better, and to learn about the opportunities available from the company. A few weeks after the conference I was contacted by the recruiting office and flown out to Defiance, OH, for a two day interview for positions in Defiance and Bedford, IN. The interview went really well, and I was invited for a second interview in Bedford, IN, three weeks later. I am pleased to inform you that I was offered a position at the Bedford plant to work on their semi-permanent mold equipment, which I have accepted. I will be joining the group on June 1st, after I finish my Masters’ degree at UW-Milwaukee.
I never would have had this opportunity if it wasn’t for FEF and the CIC conference. FEF has helped me so much throughout my undergraduate studies and now in securing a job. Thank you for everything you have done, I truly appreciate it.
D.F.—Michigan Tech—1/2012
Thank you for the scholarship money, I truly appreciate the generosity.
I was selected to receive this scholarship on behalf of my involvement in the Advanced Metal Works Enterprise here at Michigan Tech, where I have displayed excellent leadership skills within project work.
I am currently in my third year at Michigan Tech and am thoroughly enjoying my coursework in the materials department. In addition, I am working on a research project that utilizes higher order derivatives in solidification cooling curves to aid in characterization of cast metals.
After graduation I will consider making a contribution to the FEF in an effort to increase student awareness towards the fascinating cast metal industry.
J.S.— Western Michigan —12/2012

Thank you so much for providing me with a $500 FEF Scholarship. I am so honored to have been considered for the great opportunity. The metal casting industry is such a great and interesting field of study and I look forward to learning more about it. Thank you very much.
J.H.—Trine—9/7/11
I would like to thank FEF for the scholarship I received. I am a mechanical engineering student at Trine University in Angola, IN, and in addition to my studies I have had co-op positions at both an aluminum and an iron foundry. This scholarship money has helped ease the burden of room and board and book costs, and for that I thank you and the foundation.
Upon graduation in December 2012, I will be looking into potential employment at the iron foundry at which I was a co-op. Additionally, my senior design group has the chance to work with that same foundry for our project this year.
Many thanks again for your support of my education. I appreciate being able to look forward to graduating with less debt than I expected.
A.C.— Trine —8/19/11
Thank you so much for the $1500 scholarship. It is very generous of the Foundation to make these scholarships possible. With tuition constantly on the rise it is becoming harder to be able to afford schooling. Without scholarship students such as myself would have to look to extra hours of part time work to help pay tuition, effectively limiting the amount of time students have to study, learn, and retain information.
Generous scholarships, like the one I received from the Foundation, help students to achieve their goals and succeed in the classroom. Thanks again for the generosity of the Foundry Education Foundation.
J.H.—Wisconsin-Platteville—5/2/11
Thank you for selecting me as one of the recipients of a Foundry Education Foundation scholarship. I am looking forward to using this money to help pay the increasing tuition costs of attending school here at UW-Platteville.
I am sophomore in the metals program here at Platteville. When I started as a freshman in this program, I was not aware that there was an organization like AFS and FEF that is so heavily invested in the education of the future generation of the foundry industry. It is a wonderful feeling to know that so many people are willing to donate time, money, and materials in hopes of creating a more successful industry in the future.
By awarding me the Foundry Education Foundation scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.
Thank you again for selecting me for this prestigious honor.
A.P.—Wisconsin-Platteville—4/21/11
Thank you for all the help and support you have given the UW-Platteville foundry program throughout the years. I am very honored and thankful to be receiving a scholarship from FEF which helps alleviate a financial burden that has been affecting my performance in my courses.
I am a seventh year student at UW-Platteville working towards a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Technology Management with a minor in Metal Process Technologies. I have been involved with the Platteville AFS chapter and FEF since 2006 and have gained an invaluable wealth of knowledge and experience. I have been encouraging other Mechanical Engineering students to become involved in AFS, FEF, and the metals program. Upon graduation I hope to use the skills I have gained through my course work, FEF, and AFS to become involved in the foundry industry.
Thank you for all of your support and helping me achieve my college degrees.
J.A.—Wisconsin-Platteville—4/18/11
Thank you for selecting me to be one of the recipients of the Foundry Education Foundation scholarships. I anticipate using this money to help pay for rent and tuition for attending school here at UW Platteville.
I am a sophomore with this being my first year in the industrial department here at Platteville, starting out as a mechanical Engineer, before switching my major. When I first started I had no idea what a foundry was or if there were any within Wisconsin. But after a year in the metals program, I not only understand what a foundry is but am looking to have a future career in the foundry industry. It is a great feeling to know that there are people out there that donate their time, money, and materials in hopes of advancing my education and knowledge in the industry allowing me a successful future.
Thank you again for selecting me for this honor.
M.R.—Wisconsin-Platteville—4/19/11
Thank you for making the FEF program possible. I am very grateful to receive a scholarship from FEF as it will help me greatly in paying for my tuition and reducing the hours I have to work outside of school to make ends meet, allowing me to have more time to devote to my studies here at UW-Platteville.
I am a fifth year senior at UW-Platteville in the Industrial Studies Management program. I am have a metals minor along with a Computer Integrated Manufacturing minor and an Industrial Controls Minor. I began in the Engineering department at UW-Platteville in the fall of 2006, but after a semester I transferred into the Industrial Studies department. In the fall semester of 2008 I joined FEF and the AFS chapter of Platteville and have become heavily involved ever since. I was the treasure for the 2009-2010 academic year and then elected president for the 2010-2011 academic year for the UW-Platteville AFS Student Chapter and have enjoyed every minute of it. Being a part of AFS and FEF has by far been one of the best decisions I have made in college because it has greatly expanded my knowledge base of the foundry industry.
Also, I would like to thank you for everything you do to make CIC possible. As you mentioned at the Northeastern AFS Scholarship Meeting in March of 2011, the foundry industry is one of the only industries that participates in an event, such as CIC, where employers from all over the country come to meet with students and talk to them about a future career. I am proud to be a future part of the industry.
Thank you again for everything, I greatly appreciate your support throughout my college career.
